Who invented the relaxer?





Garrett Augustus Morgan around 1910 stumbled upon what would become his contribution to hair care products.





While working in a sewing machine repair shop attempting to invent a new lubricating liquid, Morgan wiped his hands on a wool cloth., returned the next day and found the woolly textured of the cloth smooth out. Then he tried it on his Airedale dog, (known for curly textured hair) and the effect was successfully duplicated.





Morgan then tried his lubricating liquid on himself, called it a ';hair refining cream';, and thus patented the first chemical hair straightener.





The are three types of relaxers.





Sodium Hydroxide is the strongest type of chemical used.

Guanidine Hydroxide is the mildest. It's really known as a no-lye relaxer. Comes in Mild, Regular, and Super Strenghts.
