I used one of those over the counter relaxers on my 8 year old and now her hair is shedding pretty badly. What

First and foremost, discontinue use of the brand of relaxer you used on her hair. You did not mention which name brand, but it is very likely that the strength of the relaxer was too strong for your daughter's gentle hair and the excessive shedding you mentioned is a sign of overprocessing. For instance, you may have put an TCB Regular relaxer and in her hair and she needs something less stringent like a Just for Me hair relaxer.

The best remedy at this point would of course be to take her to a beautician to receive deep conditioning treatments to slow/stop any damage. If you can't afford or don't know a good beautician in your area, I would recommend using Motion's Critical Protection and Repair line to wash and deep condition your daughters hair in the coming weeks. For the first few time or until the shedding decreases, have her sit under a hooded dryer with the conditioner under a plastic cap to deep condition her hair. Also, make sure you keep her scalp moisturized and she sleeps in a satin scarf or bonnet to lessen any additional breakage.

Some shedding is normal for newly relaxed hair so do not expect that all of the shedding will cease, but the aforementioned techniques should repair any damage. If it does not, definitely take her to a salon and/or a dermatologist.I used one of those over the counter relaxers on my 8 year old and now her hair is shedding pretty badly. What
I so sorry to hear that. The most common mistake people make with such relaxers is they tend to believe that it will give their kids ';wash and wear'; hair when in reality because you've removed the elasticity from the hair by making it straight it is now more vulnerable to damage. Now it requires more care than it did before. Try keeping your daughter's hair moisturized, children's hair lotions and hair dressers are good. Stay away from rubber bands and other such things that bind hair because it will make it break. If she has shoulder length hair try keeping it in an up do because the ends of hair rubbing on clothes will also cause breakage.
